Serialized intake
Record the manufacturer, model, serial number, media type, customer, date, and custody transfer for each data-bearing asset.
Controlled custody
Keep media secured and access limited from customer handoff through destruction and downstream recycling.
Documented destruction
Match the destruction method to the media and the customer’s written disposition requirements.
Certificate and manifest
Close the job with a serialized manifest and certificate recording the date, method, quantity, and responsible parties.
HIPAA-aligned—not a vague “certified” claim
HIPAA requires covered entities to maintain safeguards and procedures for the final disposition of electronic protected health information. A disposal provider handling that media may need to work under a Business Associate Agreement. Project requirements are agreed in writing before custody transfers.
Our service is designed around current media-sanitization guidance, including NIST SP 800-88 Revision 2. The appropriate process may be physical destruction, an approved purge method, or secure erasure when reuse is authorized. We do not describe a job as “HIPAA certified,” because HIPAA does not provide a simple government certification for destruction vendors.
Authoritative references: HHS disposal guidance and NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2.
